BB900 chosen to stand up to foot traffic around the new solar panels, with four VELUX skylights spaced evenly between the rafters.
A full reroof of a home in Titirangi in 0.55 BMT COLORCOTE® ZinaCore BB900 in Permanent Green, roll-formed by Dimond Roofing, over Thermakraft Covertek 407 underlay. The spouting is 125 mm COLORCOTE® MagnaFlow box gutter.
We chose BB900 because solar panels were going onto a very flat area of the roof that will see a lot of foot traffic, so we wanted a strong, durable profile. We used it across the whole roof to keep it consistent, and with the shape of the roof, BB900 in Permanent Green looks really good.
The owners were having solar installed. When we laid the roof, we coordinated with the solar company, opening up the roof so they could run their cables through. We then helped them waterproof the cable penetrations using a PVC cowling kit.
We installed four fixed VELUX skylights. The plan started with two large skylights, but when we worked out the spacing between the rafters, it didn't look right in the kitchen. Three didn't look right either, so we went to four, with channels between them so water can flow out between each one.
Our builders, Protea Build, framed the skylight openings and did the ceiling work inside. We flashed the skylight framing and installed the VELUX skylights on top.
The house is clad in cedar, with cedar fascia boards. Matching the original cladding was difficult, so Protea Build used a thermally modified timber alternative to cedar for the wall cladding. Fascia and barge boards were replaced where needed, then restored and repainted.
Some of the fascia is cedar, and we found the metal had reacted with some of the existing fixings. So we researched which materials are compatible with cedar, and chose the brackets for the box gutters to suit.
